Barnard Griffin Winery
Barnard Griffin Winery has been one of the premiere northwest wineries for the last 30 years. Bear Ideas built a new site using Drupal as the content management system with Ecommerce v.3.4. Drupal is a great platform for small business ecommerce sites. The ecommerce modules provide a complete API that allow us to integrate with third-party services during checkout. On this site there are three web service calls to the company Ship Compliant during the checkout process. They support the complex shipping and tax rules for online alcohol sales, which vary by state, county and volume, and need to be reported by the Barnard Griffin in this highly regulated industry. The APIs made integrating Ship COmpliant into the checkout pipeline a straightforward process—something that would have been impossible with any hosted or packaged solution.
Also during checkout we call to the UPS rating service to get the latest shipping rates for their specific account, and we process all payments through authorize.net in order to maintain PCI compliance and not store any sensitive credit card info on our servers. The client didn't want a link to the shopping cart always hanging around, so we built a custom cart using jQuery that appears along the top header when a customer adds an item to their basket. This keeps it unobtrusive, but still facilitates checkout for those shopping.
